Blacksmithing Classes & Workshops: During my trade course I have traveled to Sydney for my formal training requirements, which I have completed. Skills learned include a wide range of blacksmithing subjects such as heat treatment, spring making, lifting gear, alloy steel forging, i.e. high speed steel, die work, hand anvil work and more.


Blacksmithing Work Experience: I am a fourth year apprentice blacksmith and boilermaker and will be finishing my time at the end fo 2006 and will become a tradesman in both trades. I have been working in a workshop which does mainly general and industrial work, including tool dressing, heat treatment, engineering forging, with occasional decorative and structural work.

Skills Acquired: Hand forging, power hammer, MIG, TIG, Stick, Oxy-Fuel welding & cutting, profile cutting, layout/design, heat treatment, lathe machining.

Academic Education (last year completed): Completed University of Alaska Fairbanks UAF avaiation program, also, completed UAF welding program. I have also have taken several foundry and metalsmithing courses via university fine arts program.

Blacksmithing Classes & Workshops: University of Alaska-Fairbanks; metalsmithing, bronze casting, heat treatment and knife making including Damascas.

Blacksmithing Work Experience: Knife making and sculptural jobs. I have produced a few aluminum cast pieces, am exploring mokume and have completed a welding program. I am currently studying sculpture, metalsmithing and Damascus steel production. I now have a shop with a propane and coke forge setup where I have done some sculptural and ornamental wrought steel work. I have also acquired some lathe skills. I have logged many hours welding on aircraft mostly stainless,4130 chrome molly steel tubing and aluminum from very thin to substainstal structural work, mostly TIG, though I often use MIG process as well.
