New to anvils, been looking awhile, anyway picked one up last week. It seems to be cast iron, can't find any marking other than a 12 at the base under the horn, and what appears to be a *42* on the rear base (these are not asterisks but dots). It weighs 120 lbs. On the bottom, there is a depression looks somewhat hourglass shape, but basically is the contour of the anvil foot. I can take some pictures if that might help.

THANKS

Are you sure it is cast iron? Tap on end of heel and tip of horn. Thud or pings?

Actually did not tap on tip of heel and horn. Was definitely a thud in the middle. How is it you are a new member with 6 years and 500+ posts?

I have no idea.

I suspect you have an oddball or orphan.

The number under the horn is definitely weight. Numbers of back could be anything.
