New to anvils, been looking awhile, anyway picked one up last week. It seems to be cast iron, can't find any marking other than a 12 at the base under the horn, and what appears to be a *42* on the rear base (these are not asterisks but dots). It weighs 120 lbs. On the bottom, there is a depression looks somewhat hourglass shape, but basically is the contour of the anvil foot. I can take some pictures if that might help. THANKS |

Are you sure it is cast iron? Tap on end of heel and tip of horn. Thud or pings? |

Actually did not tap on tip of heel and horn. Was definitely a thud in the middle. How is it you are a new member with 6 years and 500+ posts? |

I have no idea. I suspect you have an oddball or orphan. The number under the horn is definitely weight. Numbers of back could be anything. |
