Hi everybody, I picked up an old anvil yesterday, and I can read that it is manufactured by Hay Budden, but I can't make out any other numbers on it. It is 12'' tall, about 30'' long, and 4 1/2'' wide. Would anybody know what this probably weighs? I don't think I could ask my dad to help me lift it onto a scale after we managed to get it home. ;) Thanks! |

Not that hard to weigh. Lift horn to rest on back heel. Put bathroom scale underneath. Bring anvil down on scale. If you look on the front foot you should see some numbers. The ones to the left are normally the serial number. If you can read what it is, it can be correlated to year of manufacture. Other number may or may not be weight. May be a number to identify metal lot number. As you may know, Hay-Buddens are considered to be among the best anvils ever made in the U.S. |

About 325 pounds. H-B didn't put As at the end of serial number. Probably a 4. If so, 40084 would be about 1898. |
