Hello to everyone, I am just getting started in blacksmithing. My first and best move was to start my research here! I just picked up an anvil and it's painted with many coats of a nasty orange paint. My question is how do I get it back to an original condition with out damaging it? Sandblasting? burning the paint? wire brush on a grinder? After reading here I assume it's a Hay Budden, it has the hour glass shape in the bottom! Thanks in advance for any and all advise. Marty |

Takes a lot to damage an anvil. You might it sandblasted to where only problem areas are left. Then use a water-based paint stripper to get the rest. |

Ken, Thank You very much for the advise. For some reason the bright orange color just doesn't do it for me!!! |
